AT&T; Sues 3 Biggest Rivals: American Telephone & Telegraph Co. said it wants MCI Communications Corp., Sprint Corp. and a third company to pay damages for providing long-distance phone services “under secret contracts.” AT&T; said it asked a federal district court for damages for expenses and lost profit involving hundreds of customers and “many millions of dollars” on sales of $1 billion since February, 1991. It cited a decision last year by the U.S. Court of Appeals, which ruled that long-distance carriers cannot offer interstate service that is not publicly filed with the Federal Communications Commission. MCI and Sprint both denied the allegations.
