A runaway victory was in sight today for Holua in the Del Rey Yacht Club’s race from Marina del Rey to Puerto Vallarta. Holua, averaging 9.7 knots, was projected to finish at midday today. Blake Quinn’s Santa Cruz 70 from Monterey Peninsula YC logged 233 miles--50 miles more than any other boat--in the 24 hours preceding Tuesday morning’s roll call, when it was only 229 miles from the finish.
