Irina Privalova of Russia set a world record in the women’s 60 meters with a time of 6.92 seconds in an indoor meet at Madrid. Privalova broke the previous record of 6.96, set by Merlene Ottey of Jamaica. American Gail Devers, 1992 Olympic gold medalist in the 100 meters, was second in 7.05 seconds. Canada’s Bruny Surin won the men’s 60 meters in 6.51.
