Times photographer Steve Dykes has won first place in the People in the News Category of 1992 World Press Photo contest, for his picture of Magic Johnson at a retirement ceremony at the Forum. The contest attracted 19,428 entries from 1,966 photographers in 87 countries. Dykes will receive his award in Amsterdam April 27.
