VINKO GLOBOKAR: “Discours,” III & VI; “Toucher”; “Voix Instrumentalisee”; “Accord.” Various performers. Koch Schwann 3-1063-2. In “Discours” VI, for string quartet, the French composer’s musicians actually are characters in a play--Edoardo Sanguineti’s “The Interpretation of Dreams”--speaking, shouting, whispering and singing their lines rhythmically while mirroring these sounds on their instruments. It’s a striking and giddy tour de force of contrapuntal dialogue and instrumental effects. “Toucher,” for solo percussionist and based on fragments from Brecht’s “Galileo,” has the player produce the vowel sounds on drums while reciting the words. “Voix Instrumentalisee,” for bass clarinet without the mouthpiece, uses the instrument to manipulate a single repeated sentence. “Discours” III, for five oboes, puts Heinz Holliger far into extended techniques, and “Accord,” for soprano and mixed quintet, proves grotesque, cacophonous and effectively theatrical. The performers dig into their tasks with relish.
