Computer software is already catching up with the Clinton Administration’s new requirements for allowing family leave.

MST Software in Laguna Hills has begun shipping an updated version of its Personnel Master III software, which simplifies various human resources management tasks.

The software assists employers who must comply with the new family leave legislation signed by President Clinton on Feb. 5. The law requires that businesses with more than 50 employees grant as much as 12 weeks of unpaid leave for employees to take care of newborn or newly adopted children or seriously ill family members.

Personnel Master III can automatically determine if an employee is entitled to take family leave or not. It also passes on to accounting and payroll services all information for approved leaves and adjusts vacation and sick leave accruals for employees.

Patrick Dowd, president of MST Software, said the company engineered the software so that it could be easily changed to accommodate new tasks such as family leave administration. The software runs on IBM-compatible computers and sells for $479.
