Schools Win Overseas Trip in Essay Contest

Teams from Imperial High School in Pasadena and John A. Rowland High School in Rowland Heights are among the seven winners of the Ambassadors to Singapore Competition sponsored by the Los Angeles Times In Education Program and Singapore Airlines. The students and teachers will travel to Singapore on March 5 for a nine-day trip that includes educational and sightseeing opportunities.
The contestants worked in teams of three or four students, studying The Times and other background material provided by The Times in Education Program to write a four-page essay on Singapore and the United States based on the theme, “Maintaining National Unity While Sustaining Cultural Diversity.”
Traveling to Singapore will be Imperial teacher James Petty and students Scott Darden, David Beattle, Nikki Cote and Tania Dean, and Rowland teacher David Orr and students Michelle Borras, Andy Park, Suneil Ramchandani and Dennis Yang.
