Illegal Immigrants Create the Risk
The story “Doctor Blames Aliens’ Fall on Border Patrol” (Feb. 16) doesn’t even come close to telling the whole story on who is endangering whom in the continuing attempt by some to illegally enter the United States and by others to enforce our nation’s immigration laws.
The charges by Dr. Thomas Shaver are ludicrous and absurd.
Has it ever occurred to him, or other defenders of the rights of those who desire to illegally enter our country, that the primary cause of high-speed chases on Interstate 5 or accidents such as described in the article is the illegal immigrants themselves?
The cliffs and dangerous drop-offs around San Onofre State Park and the border check station were not created by the Border Patrol or anyone else to endanger the lives of illegals. They are natural obstacles upon which campers, hikers and others who use San Onofre State Park are often injured or “endangered.”
Would Dr. Shaver like to have the taxpayers pay for sidewalks, steps and handrails around the dangerous cliffs? Why not just set up a shuttle bus between Tijuana and Orange County to ensure everyone’s safety?
The U.S. Border Patrol is a professional organization performing the inherently dangerous mission of protecting our borders.
If they create dangerous conditions for persons illegally entering our nation, they are doing their job. It should be dangerous for anyone to illegally enter our country.
