PerfectData’s Profits Fall 40%; Sales Down Slightly

PerfectData Corp. said its fiscal third-quarter profit fell 40% from a year earlier on little change in sales.

The Simi Valley-based maker of computer-maintenance products said net income in the quarter ended Dec. 31 dropped to $102,000 from $171,000 a year earlier, while sales inched down to $1.92 million from $1.93 million.

PerfectData reiterated earlier predictions that its earnings would be down this year because of costs related to its entry into the modem business.

For the first nine months of its fiscal year, PerfectData’s profit fell 26%, to $342,000 from $463,000 a year earlier, and its nine-month sales edged up 2%, to $5.72 million from $5.60 million.
