Commerce : City Accepting Applicants for Subsidized Townhome

Share

Families can join a waiting list for an affordable-housing unit that will be reserved in a townhome project on Agra Street between Gage and Nye avenues.

The project, which is to be completed in about two years, calls for six to 10 units. The city’s Community Development Commission will offer the developer a subsidy so that one of the units can be bought by a low- or moderate-income family, said Brian Dowling, housing programs manager for the city Community Development Department.

Although prices for the two- or three-bedroom unit have not been set, those who qualify will pay no more than 30% of their gross annual incomes, Dowling said.

To qualify, families must meet federal income criteria. A single individual can earn no more than $39,400; for a family of two, the cap is $45,050; for three, it is $50,650; for four, it is $56,300; for five, it is $60,800; for six, it is $65,300. Applicants also must have lived in Commerce one year.

People not selected will remain on the waiting list for about 50 additional affordable homes that will be built and subsidized over the next three to five years, Dowling said.
