A civil court jury awarded a woman $225,000 in damages Wednesday after finding that she was sexually assaulted three years ago by Raider linebacker Aaron Wallace.

The 25-year-old woman, who lives in the Dallas suburb of Garland, alleged that Wallace, a Dallas native, sexually assaulted her in February of 1990 in his car outside an apartment complex.

Wallace, 25, said the sex had been consensual.

Clearly upset after the decision was read by state District Judge Eric Moye, Wallace declined comment. His attorney, Cheryl B. Wattley, said an appeal is likely.

The plaintiff said she was relieved by the outcome and hoped it sent a message to Wallace.

“All his life, he’s been handed everything,” the woman said. “I feel sorry for him. He’s got to be miserable because he knows what he did to me. He knows and I know.”

The woman said she filed a civil case on the advice of her attorneys, Paul Fourt and Jack Gentry. Wallace has never been charged with a crime in the incident. Fourt said he doubted whether Wallace would have been indicted, because the evidence boiled down to his word against the woman’s.

During the three-day trial, the woman testified that she met Wallace while he played at Texas A&M.; The two were acquaintances but never dated, she said.

The woman said that on Feb. 19, 1990, Wallace came by her mother’s apartment in Irving, Tex., to show her his new car. She agreed to go out to eat with him, but he drove to a house in south Dallas, saying he wanted to visit a friend, according to testimony.

She testified that Wallace drank and used cocaine at the house and became irate when she asked to be taken home.

When Wallace took the woman back to the apartment complex, he forced himself on her in the car, the woman said. She eventually fought him off and ran into the complex, she said.

Wallace and two friends testified that they met the woman at a bar and she agreed to leave with them. They added that the woman had sex with all three men and several others at a hotel.
