Although the official Ventura City Hall Concert Series came to an end last season, the marble-encrusted, acoustically rich foyer space is back in action for two recitals this weekend.

On Saturday night at 8 p.m., there will be a recital by cellist Howard Colf, accompanied by pianists Newton and Vonice Friedman. The proceeds will benefit the newly formed Ventura County Chamber Orchestra. The concert is sponsored by the Friedmans, supporters of the chamber orchestra.

Colf, now a member of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, has performed with numerous orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic under Leonard Bernstein and the Philadelphia Orchestra under Eugene Ormandy. He recorded with Stravinsky, and Anatol Dorati said of him: “He is a complete master of his instrument.”
