Treasure Find: An unidentified American tourist who paid $3 for a painting of hummingbirds at a street sale in Bristol, England, could fetch $50,000 next month when the painting, which turned out to be Martin Johnson Heade’s “Ruby Throats with Apple Blossoms,” goes on sale at Christie’s. “(He) thought the work looked like something he had once seen in a book, but he had no idea what he actually had--he just liked it,” a Christie’s spokeswoman said.
