Despite the recession, the Port of Los Angeles recorded a 31.3% increase in cruise passenger traffic for the 1992 calendar year.

More than 885,000 passengers passed through the Port’s World Cruise Center, compared to 674,000 the previous year, said Port of Los Angeles spokeswoman Barbara Yamamoto.

The port’s director of marketing, Albert Fierstine, said the cruise industry has remained “recession-proof.”
