Strike Shuts Ford Plant in Mexico: A strike by 2,100 hourly workers halted production at Ford Motor Co.’s Hermosillo assembly plant in northern Mexico. Cars built there are exported to the United States and Canada. The walkout came amid an impasse over wages. The plant makes Mercury Tracers and Ford Escorts. The Confederacion de Trabajordes de Mexico, which represents the hourly workers, Ford and the Mexican Department of Labor are scheduled to resume talks later this week. A union spokesman said Ford has offered a 9.9% wage increase; the union is seeking 18%.
