Clinic Owner Faces Further Charges

Share

Prosecutors filed additional charges Wednesday against the owner of an unlicensed Santa Ana medical clinic where a woman died in January after seeking an abortion.

Alicia Ruiz Hanna, 31, will be arraigned March 16 on charges of improperly practicing medicine without a license, including performing a botched abortion in September, according to Deputy Dist. Atty. Richard M. King. The additional charges--possession of narcotics, a felony, and possession of syringes, a misdemeanor--were filed at Hanna’s preliminary hearing, which concluded Wednesday.

Hanna’s attorney, Marshall M. Schulman, has denied all of the charges. Schulman said that the original charges were concocted by a woman who wanted to help Hanna’s business partner take over the clinic. He said the new charges were nothing significant.

No charges have been filed against Hanna in connection with the unrelated Jan. 19 death of Angela Nieto Sanchez, 27, of Orange, at the clinic.
