A taxi driver who forced a suspected fare-beating passenger into the trunk will not be prosecuted, officials said Wednesday.

Edward Blagden picked up Robert Goodnough, 28, after a late-night party in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and drove him to his home in Boca Raton, about a half-hour drive. Law enforcement sources said there was some confusion about whether Goodnough refused to pay the bill, more than $40, or whether the driver did not hear when the passenger said he would go to his apartment and get the money.

Blagden reportedly jumped out of his cab and wrestled Goodnough into the trunk. Palm Beach County prosecutors decided that they would not be able to sort out exactly what happened.
