Named a “Tree City USA” 16 years in a row, Burbank is honoring Arbor Day with three tree-planting events planned for March.

The Burbank School District is holding Environmental Education Day on Tuesday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Roosevelt Elementary School. Fourth-graders will compete in a poster contest while fifth-graders will help plant trees, ground cover and shrubs. About 12 trees are to be planted along the perimeter of the school’s athletic field, said Janice G. Bartolo, deputy director of the city’s Parks and Recreation Department.

On March 11 at Verdugo Park, officials will distribute certificates honoring those who contributed to the 38th annual Plant-A-Tree drive to buy trees, Marjorie Colvin said.
