Sierra Madre : Wisteria Vine Viewing

A 99-year-old wisteria vine will be open for public viewing from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. March 21, with the number of visitors limited to 5,000. The vine is estimated to weigh 250 tons and displays more than 1 million lavender blossoms on the arbors covering two private residential properties.

Shuttle buses will transport visitors from Kersting Court at Sierra Madre Boulevard and Baldwin Avenue to the vine. The tour is free and shuttle tickets are $2.

To order tickets, send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to the Sierra Madre Chamber of Commerce, 49 S. Baldwin Ave., Sierra Madre 91024, and state the number of tickets needed, preferred hour between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and enclose $2 for each shuttle ticket.

Next year’s viewing dates will be expanded to celebrate the centennial of the planting of the vine.
