Janice Thomas could have a bone to pick with the dog that apparently picked from 41 boxes of Girl Scout cookies.

She looked out her window last week to see freshly fallen snow mingling with the mangled remains of cookie boxes from her garage.

The chief suspect, a part-Great Dane named Rusty, was still on the scene.

“I saw Girl Scout cookie boxes from one end of the snow to the other,” Thomas said. “And this dog was out there just bouncing around.”

Rusty is suspected of absconding with 41 boxes of assorted flavors, or more than 800 cookies.

Thomas said her 11-year-old daughter forgot to close the garage door after coming home from a sledding run, and she was sure Rusty raided the stash because she saw him try to steal some cookies earlier in the week.

Troop Leader Millie Lampo said the dog apparently did not squander his ill-gotten goodies.

“We thought he had eaten them all and we thought we’d find a real sick dog,” she said, “but he buried the cookies all over the neighborhood.”
