SMS Gets 3-Year Data Pact With Sizzler

Software Maintenance Specialists said Monday that it has agreed to provide computer processing services for the Sizzler International Inc. restaurant chain.

SMS is a Santa Ana company that specializes in outsourcing, in which a corporation subcontracts its computer system to be managed by an outside party. The outside party uses its expertise to save the corporation money, said Michael Winder, chief executive of SMS. The Sizzler contract is expected to generate about $2 million in revenue for SMS.

“It’s a model that more companies are following as they try to reduce their administrative costs,” Winder said. “As is typical in the food industry, competition is tight, and Sizzler is trying to reduce its administrative costs.”

Under the three-year contract, SMS is to provide outsourcing services for Sizzler’s accounting, payroll and personnel management applications.

Sizzler International, based in Los Angeles, operates 238 company-owned restaurants and 353 franchised locations in 32 states. SMS operates computer systems for about 30 corporations in Southern California.
