Home Construction Down From Previous Month

Home building took a nose-dive in Ventura County during January but still showed an improvement over year-ago activity. The Construction Industry Research Board reports that builders started 59 single-family units in the first month of this year--48% fewer than 114 in December but 210% more than 19 in January, 1992.

For the second month in a row, no multifamily buildings were started in the county during January.

The value of new non-residential construction, including commercial and industrial projects, totaled $6.9 million in January, 72% more than in December but 39% less than a year earlier.

Building projects of all kinds totaled $21.9 million in January, off 25% from the previous month and off 5% from January, 1992.
