Whoopi’s Turn: Kim Basinger isn’t the only one going to court over the nature of Hollywood film deals. Whoopi Goldberg and the production company T. Rex have sued each other over an alleged deal that would have starred Goldberg as a human policewoman paired with a dinosaur partner. Both sides agree Goldberg had her attorneys negotiating for the role, but Goldberg’s suit says the company never made a formal proposal and that she walked away from the deal after the company tried to renegotiate its original offer of $5 million upfront and 5% of the producer’s gross receipts. T. Rex’s suit alleges that Goldberg reneged on an oral contract after the script was rewritten, production was delayed and crew members were laid off to accommodate her.
