Microsoft in Talks With Cable TV Firms: Microsoft Corp. officials held talks with Time Warner Inc. and other cable providers about new experimental television services that could run flashy multimedia technology on its Windows operating system. Nathan Myhrvold, a Microsoft vice president, said the company is actively investigating innovative systems that could revolutionize home entertainment and business. Myhrvold said Microsoft’s interest was “not directly in building the (multimedia cable) network itself, but software that will run in intelligent cable boxes.” Myhrvold, the company’s top scientist, denied a published report that Microsoft was already working with entertainment giant Time Warner on an experimental cable system that will provide two-way television to about 5,000 Florida homes in 1994.
