No charges will be filed against former child actor Todd Bridges, who was arrested for stabbing a tenant in his Sun Valley house, the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office said Tuesday.

Bridges, 27, was arrested Sunday afternoon on suspicion of attempted murder for seriously injuring David Kitchen in a fight over unpaid rent.

Prosecutors will not file charges of attempted murder or assault with a deadly weapon against Bridges because the stabbing appears to have been done in self defense, said Sandi Gibbons, spokeswoman for the district attorney’s office.

Gibbons said that witnesses to the incident corroborated Bridges’ assertion that he stabbed Kitchen, 23, after Kitchen armed himself with a sword.

Bridges apparently went to the kitchen, picked up two knives and confronted Kitchen, Gibbons said. After Bridges threw a knife at Kitchen and missed, Kitchen struck him with the sword, which had a dull blade. Witnesses told police that Bridges stabbed Kitchen with the other knife after a short sword-and-knife duel, Gibbons said.

Kitchen was reported in serious condition at Holy Cross Medical Center with a punctured lung.

Bridges played Willis in the TV series “Diff’rent Strokes.”
