LOS ANGELES : Furutani Wins Fight for Ballot Reinstatement
- Share via
A Los Angeles Superior Court judge reinstated Warren Furutani on Wednesday as a candidate for the 15th Council District, ruling that he had the required number of voter signatures on his nominating petitions, contrary to the city clerk’s findings.
Initially, the clerk’s office disqualified Furutani after determining that he fell short by 67 names of the required 500 signatures of registered 15th District voters.
Before meeting in court Wednesday, the clerk’s office and Furutani’s lawyers had agreed that the city should have credited Furutani with an additional 45 signatures. But they could not agree that 22 other signatures on Furutani’s petitions matched those on registration cards.
Judge Diane Wayne ended the haggling. Most of the signatures presented to her, she said, seemed similar to ones existing on registration cards.
