St. Patrick’s Day Parade Will Honor Late Founder

Floats, marching bands, honor guards and others will trumpet down Main Street in downtown Ventura today as the fifth annual countywide St. Patrick’s Day Parade steps off at 10 a.m.

The theme of this year’s parade is “At the End of the Rainbow.” A special tribute will go to the late Arnold Hubbard, who will be honored posthumously as 1993 grand marshal.

Hubbard passed away days after the 1992 Ventura St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

“All of his friends will be walking behind the grand marshal’s car in honor to him,” parade committee member Michael Le Beck said. “He was one of the major people who got it going and kept it going for five years.”

The parade route will begin at the historic San Buenaventura Mission and wind its way south along Main Street to the Elks Lodge, where a corned beef and cabbage fund-raiser dinner will be offered to help raise money for next year’s parade.

Prizes will be awarded in five categories for the nearly 100 parade participants.

“It’s going to be fabulous,” Le Beck said. “It’s almost getting as big as the (Ventura County) fair parade.”
