Countywide : Got a Beef? Annual Write-In Awaits You

Share

Residents who want to get a political beef off their chests can stop by UC Irvine today for everything they will need to write a letter to their elected representatives.

Women For: Orange County will sponsor the eighth annual Great American Write-In from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the University Club. On hand will be representatives from more than 30 political organizations. Free refreshments, stationery and writing tables will be provided.

“It’s an opportunity for people of all ages, including students, to be in touch with legislators, the people who make policy all over the country,” said Vivian Hall, a Women For: board member.

Some of the organizations attending the event will be the Alliance for Survival, Amnesty International, California Abortion Rights Action League, California Children’s Lobby, Handgun Control Inc., the American Civil Liberties Union and the North Orange County chapter of the National Organization for Women.

Representatives of the groups will staff tables at the University Club. People attending the event can stop by any table, ask questions, receive literature and then sit and write a letter, Hall said.

“We supply everything--stationery, pens, pencils,” Hall said. “No letters are censored, everybody just writes what they want. We even mail it for them.”

Letter writers need not take the same stand as those of the organizations attending, Hall said. “They address the envelope, they seal them, and nobody’s looking over their shoulder,” she said.

The University Club is on the UCI campus. Enter the campus at Berkeley Avenue from Campus Drive. Parking is free.
