Macy’s Reports a Profit: Retailer R. H. Macy & Co. said in New York it had a disappointing fall season despite a profit for its second quarter ending Jan. 30. Macy’s reported a net profit of $8.9 million, but the results included the reversal of an earlier interest payment. Sales improved over the same period in 1992, when the results were affected by lack of merchandise shipments during its Chapter 11 filing. Macy’s owns I. Magnin and Bullock’s. Macy’s filed Chapter 11 in January, 1992.
