Nation IN BRIEF : WASHINGTON, D.C. : Clinton May Rethink Cuts in Military

From Times Staff and Wire Reports

President Clinton said that he may want to reconsider some of his proposed cuts in defense spending if the situation in Russia deteriorates. "Well, I think we're going to have some hearings about it (the defense budget)," Clinton said in response to a question about whether he plans to reconsider military cuts. "We're going to have to see." But soon after the remarks, the White House moved to ward off suggestions that the Administration was about to pull back on its proposed defense cuts.
