New Proposal to Build Cars at GM’s Van Nuys Plant: Another proposal to build electric cars at the defunct General Motors Corp. assembly plant in Van Nuys is being discussed, this time by San Fernando Valley business leaders and Malcolm R. Currie, a former chairman of GM’s Hughes Aircraft Co. unit. Preliminary talks about the idea were held in a recent meeting between Currie and David Fleming, a lawyer and member of the executive committee of the Valley Industry & Commerce Assn., a local trade group. “We have been obviously looking for a way to utilize the General Motors (plant) infrastructure, and this is a great way to do it,” Fleming said.
