CANYON COUNTRY : Girl, 6, Sticks Self With Syringe
A 6-year-old Canyon Country girl was under medical attention Thursday after she stuck herself with a syringe found on a street, authorities said.
The girl’s 4-year-old brother found the hypodermic needle in the 17800 block of Sierra Highway at about noon Thursday, Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials said. The boy gave it to his mother, who set it aside to properly dispose of it.
Later in the day, however, the girl found it and accidentally stuck herself in the hand, Sgt. Richard Lichten said. She was then taken to a doctor for an examination, he said, and the sheriff’s narcotics unit will check the needle to determine if it was tainted.
Authorities advised that anyone who finds a discarded syringe should call a nearby police or sheriff’s station.
