A Reseda dentist, who already faces trial on charges that he sexually assaulted a 19-year-old woman at his office, has also been accused of sexually attacking another woman in the office, Los Angeles police said Thursday.

Dr. Kamal Matian, 46, whose trial in the first case is scheduled to begin today in Van Nuys Superior Court, was arrested Wednesday on charges of sexually assaulting a 37-year-old West Hills woman, police said.

The incident occurred in his office in the 18700 block of Sherman Way in February, 1992, Detective Ray Velez said. The patient came forward in December on the advice of friends who told her about the other charges that the dentist is facing, he said.

The woman went to Matian to be treated for tooth pain, Deputy Dist. Atty. Renee F. Urman said. While she reclined in the dentist’s chair, “he put his hand down her blouse and on her breast. He put his other hand down her pants in her pubic area,” Urman said.

The patient then pushed the dentist away and ran out of his office, Urman said.

Matian was released Wednesday on $20,000 bail on the second charge. He is scheduled to be arraigned April 7 in that case.

In the earlier case, Matian is accused of attacking a 19-year-old woman as she read a magazine in his office Sept. 11, Urman said. The woman managed to break free and run out of the office, Urman said, and the dentist pursued her down the street.

Matian was ordered in November to stand trial on one count each of sexual battery, digital penetration and false imprisonment in the September incident, Urman said. If convicted in that case, Matian faces a maximum of 12 years and eight months in state prison, she said.

The state attorney general’s office has initiated administrative action against Matian on behalf of the California Board of Dental Examiners, Urman said. But the process of revoking Matian’s dental license has been put on hold pending the outcome of the criminal charges, she said.
