Bosnia’s Muslim president Thursday temporarily suspended his participation in international peace talks to end his country’s war, saying he could not be involved as long as Bosnian Serbs continued attacking Sarajevo and eastern Bosnia.

President Alija Izetbegovic indicated he is not leaving the talks forever but said he would stay in his hotel room until Serbs “stop killing the people.”

At the same time, the United States, Britain, France, Russia and Spain considered enforcing an air ban over Bosnia-Herzegovina proposed by France.

The Security Council will discuss the issue today. Diplomats said no action is expected before Monday, and it is uncertain whether council member Russia would agree.
