From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Police arrested two men in connection with the placing of two of the bombs that killed about 300 people in a coordinated blitz in Bombay last week and said they were hired by a drug smuggler. His motive, police said, was to spread chaos that would serve as a cover for smuggling operations. Bombay’s police chief, Amarjeet Singh Samra, said one of the men drove a jeep packed with explosives to a market in central Bombay and the other parked a booby-trapped motorcycle in the city’s jewelry market.
