NO SALE: The new album by the L.A.-based band Low Pop Suicide--featuring former Gang of Four and Shriekback member Dave Allen--is the latest to be banned from Moby Disc, the Southern California record store chain, joining albums by N.W.A. and Slayer, among others. The reason: The album, “On the Cross of Commerce,” sports cover art juxtaposing images of Jesus on the cross with symbols of commerce and sex, including vibrators.

Bob Seay, a Moby Disc executive, explains that the chain’s majority stockholder, Mark Ferjulian, is a “devout Christian” and has enforced a strict policy on content and cover art for years.

Allen, who is also co-owner of the Capitol-distributed World Domination label, says, “I couldn’t believe it when they told me. I expected to be banned from places like Wal-Mart, but not from stores like these that specialize in alternative music. But if the owner has integrity, that’s cool. He can stock what he wants.”
