Quoted Out of Context
My remarks in the article “Jewish Students Join in Protest of Fraternity’s Reinstatement” (Times Valley Edition, March 13) were accurately reported but were taken out of context.
I was not at the press conference to denounce the university or to endorse a specific set of demands. I was there to express my displeasure with the actions and arrogance of ZBT and its lawyers as well as to show support for the student protesters, who have been stereotyped as extremists.
In actuality, I think that President (Blenda J.) Wilson acted responsibly by settling the lawsuit. The next step rests with ZBT.
We in the campus community are waiting to see how ZBT expresses genuine regret and respect. How they work toward healing this campus will to a great extent determine whether situations like this occur again.
