IF THE JEANS FIT

Thanks for “A Flare for Jeans” (by Maureen Sajbel, Style, Jan. 31). And to all my friends who said so disparagingly: “Are you really still keeping all those old things around?” I say: “Vindicated at last!” The best part is that they all still fit.

I’ve just finished spending two hours going through boxes of the sweetest ‘70s memories and pulled out 17 pairs of bell-bottoms, six poor-boys and three pairs of platforms so outrageous and daring that they even made my husband gasp. (And he’d seen them all before, some 20 years ago.)

So bells are back, and so are bangles, beads and headbands. Can harvest gold and avocado be far behind?

Hurrah for retro! Bravo for the bells! Does this portend a summer of peace and love?

I’m nostalgic and proud of it.
