Prop. 103’s Legacy

Share

In response to “Prop. 103 a Nadir for Consumers,” Commentary, March 11:

Craig Berrington’s commentary is right on the money with regard to what Prop. 103 has not done. However, he forgot to mention that insurance companies have also been less than cooperative in reaching a solution. I should know, I have worked for a large company for 12 years. I have seen from an inside perspective how petty both sides have been.

The unfortunate consequence of all this is that I am now unemployed. My company is just the latest in a long list of companies that have abandoned the marketplace in California. Thousands of insurance jobs have been lost in the last few years. Make no mistake, more companies will leave unless this issue is resolved quickly.

Prop. 103’s legacy: more unemployed workers, business leaving the state, less availability for personal insurance. Is this what Californians voted for? Somehow I don’t think so.
