Belding Sports Doubles Plant Size

Share

A classic example of a family-owned business, Belding Sports has nearly doubled its plant size in Oxnard’s Channel Islands Business Center.

Belding, which produces golf bags and other golf accessories, has leased a 27,000-square-foot building adjoining its 34,000-square-foot headquarters on Emerson Avenue.

“We’re doing well,” said Dennis Perrin, vice president for sales and one of five members of the Perrin family who play key roles in the firm. “We consider ourselves the leading designer of golf bags, but we’re not among the biggest in the field.”

Except to say that Belding has been successful despite the recession, Perrin declined to give sales figures or to say how many people the privately held company employs.

Belding, a division of a holding company, Illah-California Inc., moved to Oxnard from Los Angeles in 1989. Both concerns are headed by Dennis Perrin’s mother, Illah Perrin, and his father, Jack Perrin, who are chairman and president, respectively.

Dennis’ brother, Steve, is vice president for design and foreign sales, and Dennis’ wife, Jackie, is sales coordinator.

“We’re doing pretty well for a mom-and-pop operation,” Dennis Perrin said. “There aren’t too many family fights either.”

The newly leased space will be used for offices and warehouse purposes, he reported, with production continuing in the main plant. “We do all our manufacturing in our plant in Oxnard. And we intend to keep it right here in the U. S. A.”

TOLD Partners’ Ventura office represented both Belding and TOLD Corp., owner of the newly leased building, in negotiating the lease. The five-year deal is valued at more than $600,000.
