VENTURA : Sale of Downtown Lot Authorized

The Ventura City Council on Monday authorized the sale of a lot at the northwest corner of Thompson Boulevard and Figueroa Street in downtown Ventura for development as a commercial or office project.

The city is looking for a developer to build two Victorian-style buildings at the site to complement a State Court of Appeal courthouse that will also be designed in Victorian fashion, said Miriam Mack, director of the city’s redevelopment agency. The project will be part of the city’s long-term plan to revitalize the downtown area, she said.

The parcel, about 185 feet by 140 feet, is worth at least $300,000, Mack said. Proposals to the city will be due May 21, and city officials plan to select a buyer by summer, Mack said.
