Los Lobos, Jethro Tull Head Greek Theatre’s 1993 Lineup

Los Lobos, celebrating its 20th anniversary, will perform June 12 in one of the highlights of the Greek Theatre’s 1993 season, which is being announced today. Another anniversary--Jethro Tull’s 25th--will be marked at the Greek on Sept. 16, with fellow classic-rock band Procol Harum opening the show.

Also scheduled: a four-night stand for saxophonist Kenny G, Sept. 29-Oct. 2; the Reggae Sunsplash festival, which has become one of the most popular touring events in recent years, May 29-30, and a Clint Black/Wynonna Judd show (billed as “Black & Wy”), Oct. 3-4.

These and 41 other dates are available on a subscription basis beginning today via phone and mail only. Two subscription plans are available: the Premiere Club, with a choice of any six shows, and Premiere Club Limited, with a choice of any four shows.

Orders will also be taken by phone and mail for individual shows, but those requests will be filled only after the subscription seats have been sold. For those who don’t order now, shows will go on sale through Ticketmaster about six to eight weeks before the concert dates.

A three-night Sting engagement, May 8, 9 and 11, is already on sale, but those nights may also be purchased as part of the subscriptions.

Other dates announced today include such diverse acts as New Age star Yanni (June 19), pop chanteuse Sade (Aug. 1-2), country’s George Strait (Aug. 5-6), comedian Andrew Dice Clay (Aug. 26) and an MTV-sponsored alternative-rock package of the Spin Doctors and Soul Asylum (Aug. 28).

Greek general manager Susan Rosenbluth also announced that Harry Belafonte, who will perform June 5, will be honored as the 1993 Greek Theatre Wall of Fame inductee. This show, Rosenbluth said, will be the singer’s 147th at the 6,000-seat Griffith Park theater since 1956.

Alex Hodges, head of the concert booking department for the Nederlander Organization, which operates the Greek, also announced that most concerts this year will feature lower prices for seats in the back and sides at many shows, often for $12.

Dates are still to be announced for a blues program of B.B. King, Eric Johnson and Buddy Guy and for a concert by Adam Ant.
