Poor Campaign Design: A rain-soaked crowd of nearly 200 waited in vain at the Japan America Theater Thursday night for a mayoral-candidate forum on architecture and urban design issues, moderated by KCRW’s Warren Olney and featuring a five-member panel of questioners. Confirmed participants Nate Holden, Nick Patsaouras and Michael Woo were no-shows. Lone candidate Joel Wachs, who wryly blamed his rivals’ non-attendance on “the absence of television cameras at this event,” fielded questions for a little more than an hour, but had to leave early for another campaign appearance. Event chair Victor Nahmias said the no-shows were stark evidence of “the low priority given to architecture and urban design issues in L.A.”
