Local News: It’s What’s Really Happening

Share

I wholeheartedly agree with Rosenberg’s assessment of crime reporting on the local “news” shows. You don’t need to be a scientist to recognize the disproportionate amount of time devoted to shootings, holdups, murders and high-speed chases.

Since moving to Los Angeles 10 months ago, I’ve been astonished at what passes for news here. What in other major cities would be relegated to the crime report section is the lead story or stories here. There is little local news; just a body count sandwiched between weather, sports and chitchat.

I can’t help but believe that this crime-skewed view of life in Los Angeles contributes to the growing fear gripping the city. Shame on the stations and shame on us for not insisting on some balanced news shows that don’t rely totally on mayhem and bloodshed to fill their air time.
