Local News: It’s What’s Really Happening

One of the reasons that I look forward to reading Howard Rosenberg’s column is that I agree with what he says about 95% of the time, particularly regarding his views on local newscasts. However, I must take exception to “Local News: Isn’t It a Crime?” (March 17).

Rosenberg says that “the news is supposed to present an accurate picture of the world, not take incidents out of context.” What does he think is going on out there? What we see on the evening news is really happening. It’s not footage of a movie being filmed. People really are being killed for their automobiles. Gang shootings and car chases on the freeways are a fact of life.

Rosenberg may not like what’s going on in Southern California (and I sure don’t), but ignoring the problems is no solution either.
