Grass-Roots Pressure on Congress

Share

The article was “fraught with manipulation.” It concerns me, and many of my friends that since there is a new Democratic Administration, people with alternative views are scoffed at.

Independent of any group or “sophisticated electronic network,” my friends and I pick up our phones, use our computers to write letters and use our fax machines. We certainly didn’t think we were sophisticated; we just thought we were expressing our opinions as good Americans. It is pretty frightening that the media and this Administration, which is shaping up to be the most duplicitous in my lifetime, are attempting to ignore conflicting opinions.

Can’t The Times figure out why there is such an outpouring of mail and other forms of communication in the first 55 days of the Clinton Administration? Am I wrong or haven’t the NRA and abortion people been around for the last 12 years? Perhaps the dramatic increase in mail to Sen. Dianne Feinstein is because many, many people like me--pro-choice, business person, mother, wife, average PTA concerned citizen--are frightened that if we don’t speak out we will lose our right to express our opinion.
