Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies killed a Palmdale man because he pointed a replica gun at them outside his home, the Sheriff’s Department said Friday.

Stuart Rosenstein, 38, died at Palmdale Hospital Medical Center about 9:15 p.m. Thursday, about an hour after he was shot, the Los Angeles County coroner’s office said.

At about 6 p.m. Thursday, deputies received a call from neighbors about a gun-wielding man who had barricaded himself in his home, Sgt. Ron Spear said. Over the next two hours, Rosenstein came out of the house twice, shouted and pointed what appeared to be a handgun at deputies, said Deputy Irma Becerra.

“The deputies managed to contact the suspect on the phone, and he immediately told them that he was going to kill the deputies outside the house and anyone who tried to come in and get him,” Becerra said.

Shortly after the phone call, he ran outside and pointed the replica gun at deputies, who shot him to death, she said.
