WORLD IN BRIEF : EGYPT : Time Bomb Kills Officer in Cairo

A time bomb exploded in the hands of policemen attempting to dismantle it inside a civil defense building in Cairo. One officer was killed. In the southern city of Assiut, a member of the extremist Islamic Group claimed the organization had a hand in the attack. The officer killed was the 54th person to die in violence waged by militants who seek to oust the government and create a religious state. It was the third bomb in a month in downtown Cairo.
