COSTA MESA : Disaster Preparation Academy Scheduled

More than 400 people responsible for emergency planning in Orange County will have a chance to sharpen their skills Wednesday during the 9th Annual Disaster Preparedness Academy.

The daylong event, co-presented by the American Red Cross Orange County Chapter and the Orange County Cities Emergency Management Organization, will include 15 workshops devoted to disaster planning.

Among the topics for the day: emergency planning for business, mental health issues related to disasters and hotel/hospitality industry earthquake preparedness and response.

Two local companies will receive Orange County Disaster Preparedness Academy Awards at a special luncheon, which will be held at the Red Lion Inn in Costa Mesa.

The event is also designed to kick off the Orange County observance of Earthquake Preparedness Month in April and to serve as the final event in the local observance of Red Cross Month.
