Microsoft Anticipation Boosts Stock: Microsoft Corp.’s new version of its MS-DOS operating system, which runs on 130 million personal computers around the world, may be its largest ever, but next year’s upgrades could dwarf this one, and anticipation sent the company’s stock soaring. Optimism over the new updates lifted shares $4 to $91 at the close on the NASDAQ market. Goldman, Sachs analyst Rick Sherlund projects Microsoft earnings growth may bounce back to the 40% to 50% level of the past when it introduces the upgrades, dubbed “Chicago.” He predicts that they will include a new version of Microsoft’s popular Windows graphics interface and a fresh version of MS-DOS that could generate $1 billion in revenue.
